Dmitry Zhevlakov - luthier
Autobiography:

Dmitry Zhevlakov was born in 1973 in Tula (Russia) in the family of the guitarmaker Alexander Zhevlakov. Since childhood he helped his father to make classical guitars and inlay for music instruments. Dmitry's father was often visited by professional guitarists of Tula, famous not only in Tula, but also abroad (S. Rudnev — a guitar composer and a masterful guitarist, S. Pavlov and so on). All of them had instruments of Alexander Zhevlakov (Dmitry's father) and appeared on the stage playing on them. Dmitry grew up in atmosphere of guitar music and this fact formed his notion of the professional guitar's sound. In his family and in the circle of the father's friends the problems of the performer and the instrument were discussed. Alexander Zhevlakov worked on "Moscow Experimental Factory of Music Instrument". For his part, he was always helped by his father — Vasily Zhevlakov (Dmitry's grandfather), technologist and designer. He was developing an equipment for manufacture of guitars, guitar rosettes and mosaic, and also took part in making instruments.

In 1974 Dmitry's grandfather and father had developed a unique technology of the round frets from the hard metal. Afterwards, all the guitars made by Alexander Zhevlakov were just with such fret was as a minimum — 15-20 years.

Dmitry's father and grandfather had played a great part in strong up materials for the guitars. Resonance white spruce was stored up in 1974! At that time rose wood, walnut and rock maple were stored up. Now Dmitry makes instruments just from these materials with the assurance of their quality.

After his father's death in 1992, when he have already got musical education on class of clarinet and percussion instruments in "Tula Dargomizsky Musical College", he continues business which his father and grandfather began. Expert his grandfather, the guitarmaker from Moscow Nikolaj Andrejev becomes his teacher, he (N. Andrejev) have won "The all — Russian Competition among the Guitarmaker" in 1998. Mainly, the majority of the guitars at that competition already with the inlay and rosettes of Dmitry Zhevlakov, as he has already mastered the technology mosaic at that time, and has already began to perfect it, basing on the pieces of advice of the guitarmakers and also on his own notion about the design and quality of rosettes for guitars. In 1998 S. Rudnev — a professional performer, who plays on the classical guitar and who has played many guitars of different guitarmakers, talks with Dmitry about the problem of fret of the fingerboard, which differed from the standard and generally accepted marking, where was considered: difference of string material, diameter of the strings and the other particular features of the instrument. According to this technology especially for S. Rudnev the instrument was made.
